LOUISEHØYRUP

I am a Danish painter with strong roots in Norway. I grew up in Denmark, Norway, and England. In the changes that came with moving, the painting became my companion. I attended my first drawing classes as eight with Norwegian artist Dag Gimle.

As a young adult I took preparatory courses with reputable artist Ulrik Hof in Charlottenlund north of Copenhagen and later I went to the village of Villa Faraldi in the north of Italy to be an art student with the Norwegian known artists Inger Sitter and Frits Røed.

I have an education in handicrafts and cultural communication, a teacher's education with a specialization in visual arts and design, as well as a master's degree in educational psychology.

The common thread for my paintings is the investigation of changeability and transfiguration. In my choice of motifs as well as in the way I approach painting. I always have an intention, but as soon as the pensel hits the canvas playfulnes, curiousity and eagerness takes over.

Where will this lead to? What is really going on?

I let the motif build up, typically involving layers of paint or by creating a wilderness of elements. Eventually opportunities of meaning appear on the canvas and my intention and the motif start to resonate. The proces becomes more consious. I search for metafors, connotations and connections that I can express a meaning with. I connect the elements and make the composition. I tidy up, paint, scrape, erase, cover, wash and draw untill the motif virbrates in a harmony that brings a sence of additional psychological and/ spiritual understanding to the surface.

In that sence painting is my dialog with myself.

I haven’t strived for a certain style of espression, one migth say I have several. It is part of my modus of changability.
